    45 mins
How are you empowering all learners today and preparing them to thrive tomorrow? As technology changes, the skills that employers are looking for are also evolving to include skills such as creative problem-solving, analytical and design thinking, and collaboration. The keynote will be followed by a conversation with leaders from Castlemilk High School and St John Paul II Primary School in Glasgow, discussing how they enable all students to develop these skills - and how technology helps support young people today and prepare them for tomorrow.

The learning estate is made up of a diverse range of buildings we already have, as well as a portfolio of new planned projects. Re-imagining the potential of what already exists is about creativity, confidence building and changing how learning happens. This can be achieved through a whole school approach to empowering learners, supporting teachers, and extending the life of assets. This session will look at the possibilities of whole school and multi year planning to transform learning through incremental, affordable change, inside and outside the school building, with the whole school community.

  2. Stage 2
    60 mins
This session will explore an exciting new digital toolkit which can be used to engage pupils in the exploration of nature and sustainability features in the outdoor school estate and wider community. Discover how the interactive Nature Discovery Map Scotland – or ‘NDMS’ toolkit – can be used by teachers and pupils to support learning for sustainability, including nature-literacy, geography and digital skills, and to take an active role in the planning and creation of more nature-rich and climate resilient school grounds.

To address heatwave vulnerabilities, the city of Paris initiated the "OASIS" schoolyard greening program. Openness, Adaptation, Sensitisation, Innovation and Social Ties : since 2017 this program aims to design and transform the schoolyards in Paris into green oases accessible to both the school pupils and local communities. Schoolyards, which in the City of Paris are typically sealed spaces, were chosen as potential green cool areas due to their presence and equal distribution in all neighbourhoods and the proximity to potentially vulnerable communities.

Through co-design and coordination with users, the new schoolyards are more climate resilient, providing a healthier and more engaging learning environment, and socially inclusive.
